Charles J. “Charley” Franz, 82, of Syracuse, died on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Crouse Hospital with his wife Joan and his family by his side. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. He was a 1956 graduate of St. Anthony of Padua School where he met Joan, and they were married on August 2, 1958. He then joined the US Army and served in Korea. He retired after 35 years from Niagra Mohawk.
Charley enjoyed his daily crossword puzzles, watching sports, especially SU. Joan and Charley enjoyed playing Scrabble every Sunday, and dining out always at Tully’s.
He was pre-deceased by 6 brothers and 1 sister.
He is survived by wife and best friend of 62 years, Joan; 3 children: Thomas, Laurie, Chuck; grandchildren Andrew, J.J. & Kelly; 4 great grandchildren: Owen, Nathan, Matthew and Avery; 2 sisters-in-law: Carol Franz, Anne Franz and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no services as per Charlie’s request. A memorial will be held after the Holidays.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital or Bishop Grimes High School.
