Esperanza posted a condolence

I did not personally know Patricia well as I only met her once at Andrew's graduation. I am a friend of her son Andrew (Ginger). Andy has shared such wonderful memories of his mom that I feel like I know her enough to say she was the heart of her family, a loving mom, author, animal lover, and wonderful strong woman. My condolences to the whole family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

I hope it is ok that I am sharing this. I did not know Grace, but I came across her obituary and saw that she was an author so I thought I would see if I had read any of her books. I found this great bio that she had written and thought it would be nice to share.
My Deepest Condolences.
On July 14, 1939, the firstborn of Clarence Snyder and Grace Schreader Snyder was born. My name then was Patricia Grace Snyder, and I was born 150 years to the day after the storming of the Bastille. Eventually I had eight siblings.
At age two I became totally blind from a rare blood disease. I attended the New York State School for the Blind, and I graduated in 1957, valedictorian of my class. Because I had a New York Regents scholarship, I had to go to college in New York State. I therefore attended Houghton college, graduating in 1961.
I met and married Angelo Ortiz in 1962. We eventually had seven children.
The New York State Commission for the Blind took over my rehabilitation and work life at about this time. I worked briefly for a taxi company, American Disabled Workers (a telemarketing company for the disabled), and then for Accu-med as a medical transcriptionist.
Starting in college, the Commission told all my instructors that I wasn't supposed to be encouraged to write. They wanted me in a job that was going to insure me a steady income.
I wrote anyway. I just didn't have the money to keep sending my work out to publishing companies especially since I was told that I probably would need to send it out to many publishers before I could get it published.
Many of the stories and novels and poetry that I wrote at this long-ago time I kept, first in Braille, and then on a computer. The Commission gave me my first computer when I started working for Accu-med in 1991.
When Accu-med closed down, I was the last person working there because I still needed the money. I had the Commission come in and collect my belongings so that the people who were suing Accu-Med and possibly Accu-med themselves wouldn't snatch them up to pay some of the money owed.
Soon after I lost my job at Accu-med, I got first one with a surgeon and then one with a podiatrist. Because I was blind, I had much hardship, trying to keep both jobs. I managed, and my retirement from the one job was because the doctor preferred a machine, one which had been proven to be inefficient. A woman who worked with me told me that if she said into this machine, "Pat and I went over her work today," the machine would write, "Pat went out and got hit by a truck."
I lost my other job basically because the office manager had been trying to find a reason to terminate my employment for twelve years. She finally thought she had found one, and at seventy-four years of age, I retired. Since then I has been on Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, and Social Security.
My Social Security came as widow's benefits because Angelo had died in 1993 of stomach cancer. At fifty-four, I was left a widow. With five children still at home and another who came back sometimes, it was still hard without a job.
I presently live in Syracuse, New York, with two of my children. Last year I dug up some of my old novels, which were still languishing in my computer, rewrote them, and produced some new ones.
I loves writing poetry and novels, especially historical novels. Fantasy is also a favorite of mine.
On August 26, 1956, I was born again, and most of my poetry and novels reflect a Christian point of view in perspective even if not directly. Christianity is a very important part of my life. I go to church and attend two Bible study groups. Jesus is my guide and my personal Friend.
