Obituary of Anthony Simone
Anthony “Tony” Simone 94, of North Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by family. He was born in Syracuse to the late Ralph and Matilda (Albanese) Simone.
He graduated from North High School and SUNY Morrisville. Although he graduated with an electrical degree he utilized throughout his life, his primary focus in high school and his initial motivation to attend Morrisville was football. He was proud of his accomplishments on the “grid iron” and was blessed to maintain lifelong friendships with many of his teammates. In 2000 he was honored to be inducted onto SUNY Morrisville‘s Wall of Fame.
After graduating from Morrisville, he was drafted and proudly served his country for two years in the United States Army. He was employed by GE in research and development for 15 years before working as a regional sales representative for the Wiremold Company until his retirement. He could then be found at Royal Electric serving as a counter man at his lifelong friend Dodge Monteleone’s store. He was employed there until the store closed when they both turned 80. Also in retirement, he was a member of the North High breakfast group that met every Friday to reminisce and enjoy fellowship with one another.
He was a communicant and very active member of Saint Rose of Lima Parish throughout his life. He served on the parish council, as well as a weekly usher for many years. In more recent years he volunteered at their Fall festival sitting next to his wife selling raffle tickets, as her assistant. He was an active member of the nocturnal adoration society for several decades.
He coached both his sons and many North Syracuse youth in Little League baseball. He was the kind of coach and role model everyone should get to experience.
He met Lorraine, the love of his life, at Grant Junior High School; together they built a marriage of 71 years and a home full of love and laughter. He was an amazing father and papa. He was a strong presence in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and everyone who loved him. His life was impactful, meaningful and important. He loved deeply and he was deeply loved.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children Deborah (Adam) Ford, Ralph (Maggie), Charles, and Doreen (Scott) Kingsley; grandchildren Tyler (Brenna) Kingsley, Meghan (Leighton) Peters, Kenzie (Greg) Feinberg, Maddy Kingsley, Renny Simone and Sophie Simone; his brother Johnny Simone, sister-in-law Gail Simone, and several wonderful nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Richard, Michael, John and Robert; in-laws Dorothy and Leo Caveney, Pat and Joe Scarcelli and Lorna and Jim O’Toole and his niece Sharon Stone.
Funeral Mass, in celebration of Tony’s life, will be held at 11:00am Monday, December 12th at St. Rose of Lima Church, 409 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following. Family and friends may call from 4:00-8:00pm on Sunday, December 11th at Fraiser Shepardson Funeral Home, 1217 North Salina Street, Syracuse.
