Obituary of Mary Janet Sweeney

Mary Janet Sweeney, 80, of Cicero, died on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Crouse Hospital.
Mary was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church and sang in the folk group at church.  She formerly worked at American Greetings and K-Mart and was known as the “Card Lady.”  Janet took up running in her 40's and continued exercising with family and friends into her later years.  Janet worked hard raising and nurturing her family and enjoyed cooking.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchild, and her home was always open for her family.  Janet was direct and honest in all her interactions, and her friends and family had many laughs over the years as a result of those interactions. 
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 57 years, Paul “Joe” in 2022 and a brother James McCarthy.
She is survived by her 3 sons: Christopher (Jessica),  Stephen, Paul; a daughter: Colleen (Craig) Dillenbeck; 7 grandchildren; a great grandson.
A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Thursday in St. Margaret’s Church with entombment to follow in Woodlawn Mausoleum.  Friends may greet the family from 9-10 before the mass in Church.
