Obituary of Jean M. Kelly

Jean M. Kelly died at home in Dewitt, NY on Monday, March 18, 2024, after a brief illness. Jean was born April 5, 1953, in Rome, NY.  The hospital receipt from her birth, found among her papers, lists the cost as $37.50.  
Jean graduated from Rome Catholic High School and attended St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Utica, graduating in 1974. She moved to New Haven, CT to join the staff of Yale New Haven Hospital working as a Staff Nurse and later as Assistant Head Nurse in the Neurosurgery and Neurology Department.  In 1986, she moved to Syracuse, NY to be closer to family and joined the staff of Crouse Hospital.  She worked in various capacities at Crouse, mostly in the MSICU, for 16 years while earning a Bachelor of Science Nursing, and Master of Science/Adult Nurse Practitioner degrees from the Syracuse University College of Nursing.  Jean spent the second half of her nursing career in Diabetes Education before retiring in 2020.
Jean’s love of her nursing was only eclipsed by her love for her family.  She cherished her roles as Daughter, Sister, Cousin, Aunt and Great-Aunt.  She will be sorely missed.  In addition to her love of family, Jean loved her dogs, Sam and Rielly, her friends, and her garden.
Jean is survived by her nieces: Caitlyn (James) Burns, Emilie Martin, and Siobvan Martin; nephews: Daniel Martin, and Michael (Katie Prichard) Kelly; and her grand-nieces and nephews: Tess, Norah, Connor, William, Anthony, and Isabella.  She is predeceased by her parents Veronica and Francis Kelly; her brothers: Patrick, who is survived by wife Louise Dean-Kelly, and Jim; her sister Kathleen Kelly Martin and her niece and nephew: Clare Martin and Nicholas Martin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Church in Dewitt, NY at 11am on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.  The service will be live streamed on the church’s website. Interment will be on a later date at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Rome, NY.
