Obituary of Lorraine Ann Simone
Lorraine Simone, 95, of North Syracuse, New York passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Syracuse in 1928 to the late Leo and Dorothy (Burgess) Caveney. She graduated from North High School and worked at Edwards Department store as a buyer in the bridal department, enjoying her many buying trips to New York City. Her quick wit and inviting personality made her extremely approachable in that position and throughout her life. Her sense of style was always apparent.
She was married to the love of her life, the late Anthony (Tony) Simone, for 71 years. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Her family was everything to her. She supported every endeavor her children and grandchildren pursued. She could be found on the sidelines or in the stands at every sporting event, musical concert, or theater production her loved ones were participating in.
Not only was Lorraine a wonderful fan, but she was also a gifted athlete herself. She was a skilled golfer who played in numerous golf leagues over the years, including at Arrowhead and Brooklawn. She was proud to have had two hole-in-ones throughout her playing days. She loved to bowl and in her prime wielded a 16-pound bowling ball.
Lorraine was a teacher’s aide at Allen Road Elementary School for many years. Scores of students remember her fondly from her presence in the cafeteria and in the hallways of the school.
She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church for over 70 years. She was a staple at the raffle table at the annual Fall Festival with her lifelong friend, Phyllis Harmer.
She will be remembered for her beautiful red hair that matched her fiery disposition.
She was a wonderful host and cook. Her home was frequently the hub of entertainment, whether it was a lively New Year’s Eve party, a monthly alumni club gathering, or a family Christmas Eve celebration. She had a knack for making everyone feel welcome.
Lorraine was a loyal friend who maintained relationships with people she knew her entire life. She loved deeply and was deeply loved.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Deborah Ford, Ralph (Maggie) Simone, Charles Simone, Doreen (Scott) Kingsley; grandchildren, Tyler (Brenna) Kingsley, Meghan (Leighton) Peters, Mackenzie (Greg) Feinberg, Madison Kingsley, Renny Simone, Sophie Simone; great-grandson, Oliver Peters; niece, Cindy (Rick) Zimmer, and several great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Joseph Scarcelli and Lorna and James O’Toole, her niece Sharon Stone, and son-in-law, Adam Ford.
Funeral mass in celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 12 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 409 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following. Family and friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 at Frasier Shepardson Funeral Home, 1217 North Salina Street, Syracuse.
