Mrs. Carter was my first grade teacher at Charles Andrews Elementary School in the 1950's. I always had a fond memory of her as gentle and fair. By coincidence I grew up to be a union leader like her.

I was Third Vice-President of the Syracuse Teachers Association when Marjorie was President. I watched her lead negotiating teams that won benefits for members. She supported expanding the Association by adding Nurses, Teaching Assistants and Aides. She was always calm and deliberate in difficult situations. She is held in the highest regard.

I had the opportunity to get to know Marjorie as a member of Onondaga County Retired Teachers Organization (RENY). Her dedication and continuous support for retirees as well as active educators and students were such an inspiration to me. I fondly remember her quick wit and smile. With heartfelt Condolences

Miss Marjorie was my first grade teacher at Charles Andrews.
Several years ago, while going through boxes of papers, I came across a Xmas card that she sent to me (and, I assume, each of her other students). It was hand written. The post mark was December 1954!
I will forever cherish this act of affection as well as my sweet memories of “Miss Carter”!

My first and 2nd grade teacher and someone that I connected with later in life. A person with astounding accomplishments with no self fanfare. I will cherish her memory.

Marjorie was a legend (and still is) when I came to Syracuse. I was blessed to meet her and become friends. Her positive energy, charm, grace and humanity will remain my treasured memory. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. RIP dear Marjorie!

I first met Majorie when I was working in Onondaga County's Office for Aging. I enjoyed learning from Majorie about the Syracuse community, as well as following her lead in different wys to tackle some of the human problems of our population. Later, I was privaliged to continue with her on the Advisory Council for the Senior Community Program at InterFaith Works. Marjorie always contributed something positive to our Council meetings. as well as with her special personal touches. We miss her already!

Greatest teacher I ever had. Brilliant woman. This picture was taken at the Everson supporters picnic in 2016. She was being honored with the “exemplary service award” having been a docent for over 25 years. We were able to chat and I was able to express how grateful I was to have been her student. Thank you Mrs Carter.

Memories. Exactly that. She lived up the street from us. A kind, warm and caring soul. I remember flowers in her yard as I'd ride my bike by her house; a quiet, peaceful looking home. And my sister reminded me how she used to drive us to church, occasionally, to St. Paul's in the Valley. Another door closed from my childhood. Reading her tribute I can see how much of an impact she remained to the community throughout her long life. So many of us should take lessons from this. I love her quote and now in the later years of my life I will remember reading those words: "Whatever it is that you want to do, believe in yourself and you can do it!".
