Cousin reunion in America
Roswitha was the eldest of 14 female cousins and 12 male cousins out of the Merz family in Heigenbrücken. At the age of 18, she was brave enough to leave her home to travel the big, wide world. Her destination was America. She always kept in touch with Heigenbrücken. Her mother, her sister and her best friends all lived here. Unfortunately, she had not been able to come to Heigenbrücken for many years for health reasons.
Twelve remaining cousins (Gerda has already passed away) meet from time to time for a coffee, a social get-together and to exchange news. At one of these meetings, the suggestion was made to hold a cousins' reunion in America. Roswitha's sister Andrea made the arrangements and four couples set off for the USA. After a wonderful round trip, we visited our cousin Roswitha in Syracuse. We were picked up at the airport late in the evening and it was a warm reunion. Roswitha, Bob and Michael's whole family welcomed us very lovingly and with open arms. During our stay we were spoiled with delicious food, went on lovely excursions and had lots of good conversations. We laughed a lot and sang old songs, maybe not always nice, but we really enjoyed it. The time just flew by. There was still so much to tell, but even the best of times pass. We will always remember it in our memories and we will be forever thankful for our time with Roswitha and her wonderful family.
Dear Roswitha, thank you so much!
Until we meet again, may god hold you in the palm of his hand.
Your cousins an their spauses

Cousinen-Treffen in Amerika
Liebe Roswitha, vielen, vielen Dank

Dear Bob, dear family
We were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your beloved wife, Roswitha. Please accept our heartfelt condolences during this incredibly challenging time. We cannot imagine the pain and sorrow you must be feeling, and we want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Losing a life partner is an unimaginable loss, and the grief can be overwhelming. Roswith was a wonderful person who brought joy and love into your life, and her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
We got to know and love Roswitha and you, Bob, in 1980 when you made it possible for us to stay with you in the USA with lots of events. We were lovingly welcomed and felt very comfortable in your home and we often laughed heartily. This time will always be unforgettable for us.
During this time of grief and mourning, it’s important to remember that you have a supportive network of community, friends, and loved ones who are here for you.
You are in our thoughts, and we are sending you strength, comfort, and love during this challenging time.
With deepest sympathy,
Beate and Simone

Dear Bob, dear Michael and Stephan,
To say goodbye to someone you love does always hurt immensely, but if you keep the memories in your heart, you will never really lose them. Keep the memory of a great, loving and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother in your heart and let the memories be a comfort in this hard and mournful time. We are also sad about the big loss of a cousin who always welcomed us with open arms and kindness. The time we spent with you all is unforgettable. We will attend the service with you and you are in our thoughts. We will also donate some money to the Francis House on behalf of Roswitha.
Yours,
Ursula & Georg Kornelia & Norbert
and families

Liebe Roswitha, mögen Engel dich ins Paradies begleiten.
In Liebe deine Schwester Andrea

Bob and family,
I remember you and Roswitha well back when I worked at Syracuse Savings Bank in Eastwood. Such a great couple! I got transferred to the Nottingham office in 1991, so didn't see a lot of my regular customers from Eastwood. The last time i remember seeing you both was about 1999 when we were both visiting relatives at James Square.
From reading the obit, it sounds like you had a wonderful life together.
I am sincerely sorry for your loss.

Roswitha was truly one of a kind—kind-hearted, caring, and always willing to lend a hand or share her knowledge in her own special way. She was a perfect friend, and her warmth and generosity touched everyone around her. She will be deeply missed, and I will forever hold the precious memories of her close to my heart.
