Obituary of Robert M. White

Robert M. White, 89, of Syracuse, died on Monday at the Crossings. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1942 and R.P.I. in 1950. He retired in 1986 as Senior Structural Standards Engineer for Niagara Mohawk after 21 years. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Holy Name Society and Parish Council. He was past president of the World Apostolate of Fatama Syracuse Chapter, Nocturnal Adoration Society and Bishop Ludden Parent Teachers Guild. Mr. White was a past board member of Birthright Pregnancy Counseling Service, Astride Therapeutic Riding and Association for Retarded Citizens. He was also a member of Opus Dei, Drumlins Tennis Club, American Society of Civil Engineers, St. Vincent de Paul Society, NIMO Retirees Association, and Syracuse Right to Life Association. He was a veteran of WW2 and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He participated in the Senior Games earning Gold and Silver Medals. He was a past committee person for Boy Scout Troop #326 and #222. He is survived by his wife Virginia Hemmer White; 7 sons: James J. of Kirkville, John R. (Michelle) of Fuquay Varina, NC, Thomas F. of Syracuse, Peter V. (Harriett) of Manlius, Paul M. (Lorraine) of Liverpool, Ret, Lt. Col. Andrew P. (Former wife Kim Frost)of Alexandria, VA, Mark S. of Syracuse; 4 daughters: Mary V. Morgan (David) of Lafayette, Helen M. (Andrew Leighton) White of Arlington, VA, Mary G. (Elizabeth Regan) White of Hampton, CT, Maritherese deBerjeois of Chapel Hill, NC; and 20 grandchildren: Allie, Aimee, Shawn, Erin, Ryan, Kevin, Jeff, Matt, James, Brittany, Rebekah, Lauren, Katie, Jamie, Ben, Danielle, MacKenzie, Alexandra, Madalyn, Jessica; 9 great-grandchildren: Haley, Abby, Joey, Morgan, Maddie, Taylor, Rylee, Kennedy, Jaina. Funeral mass will be Thursday at 10:30 in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 3-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson funeral home, 3111 James Street.
