Obituary of Peter R. Suarez

Peter R. Suarez October 17, 2014 Peter Robert Suarez, 86, formerly of Syracuse, died on Friday in Schenectady. He was a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy and the Wittenburg Theological Seminary. Peter served as a Lutheran Minister for 55 years. He served St. John's in Lancaster, NY; Gilead Lutheran Church in Brunswick, NY ; First English Lutheran Church in Syracuse, NY where he retired from in 1991 and is Pastor Emeritus ; and finally served as the Visitation Pastor at Atonement Lutheran Church for the past 20 years, retiring again in December of 2013. The theme here is that Pastors never really retire. Peter loved The Lord and served the church his whole life. He taught his family to love The Lord, the Ocean and one another. He was also a member of the Rotary, serving as President 1985-1986 and received the Paul Harris Award. His daughter Susan Suarez had pre-deceased him. Peter is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elizabeth Anne "Betty" (nee Egan) whom was the love of his life and he will always be her one and only; sons: Peter Eric Suarez of Gulfport, Florida, Jon David Suarez of Potsdam, NY; daughters: Rebeca Kench of Cazenovia, Marna (Earl) Redding of Niskayuna, NY; a sister Jane Niemczyk of Souderton, PA; and 4 grandchildren: Phoebe Laurelle Brackett, Lilith Snow Kench, Jack Suarez Redding, Elizabeth Lucille Redding. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10am in Atonement Lutheran Church. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-7pm in the Church.
