Giuseppe (Joe) Abbadi, 88, of Syracuse, died on Thursday at his home. He was born in Italy and his parents were Francis and Susanna Barone Abbadi. He was married in 1949 in St. Peter's Basilica in Italy and served in the Italian Army. He was a self-employed barber for over 45 years; known as "Joe the Barber". He was a member of the Five Oaks Social Club, a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei and a member and past president of the Syracuse Sports Soccer Club.
Mr. Abbadi is survived by his wife Santa; 3 daughters: Susan (George) Given of Dewitt, Prudence Abbadi of Syracuse, Frances (Robert) Kribs of Syracuse; brother: Sam Abbadi of East Syracuse; grandchildren: Robert (Clara), Joseph & David (Tiffany) Kribs, Rachel Given; 2 great-grandchildren: Julian & Alexander Kribs; and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral services are Tuesday at 12:30pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson funeral home and at 1pm in Our Lady of Pompei Church. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7pm at the funeral home, 3111 James St.
Contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
