Obituary of Carl Edward Dennis

Carl Edward Dennis of Boothbay Harbor, Maine and formerly of Syracuse passed away July 9, at St. Andrew's Village. Born in Springfield, MA in 1933, Carl's family moved to Syracuse when he was a year old and he stayed here until he retired to his beloved Maine. He was an army veteran who worked at Western Electric, then for the next 40 years he lent his fashion sense to many while employed by Wells & Coverly, B. Forman and Addis and Deys. Carl was President of the local chapter of Sertoma International, on the board of trustees of the Jaycees, president of the Holy Name Society of Blessed Sacrament Church, and involved in his kids' activities serving as president of the Bishop Grimes PTCO. He was active in local theater at the Landmark, and for many years with the Boy Scouts of America. With panache and great love he became Poppy to grandson Dennis. Left to cherish their memories are his son Scott Dennis, daughter Mary Helen, her husband, his "son" Geoff Swanson and grandson Denny Swanson, all of Syracuse, his sister Sue Forsyth of Ft. Meade, Florida, niece Janet Preston (Walt), nephew Bill (Linda) Preston, cousins Florence Johnson Wilson and Albert Johnson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated August 1 at noon at the Madonna de la Strada Chapel at Le Moyne College with a calling hour immediately preceding at 11:00. In Carl's memory donations may be made to the Gregory Wing, Lincoln County Animal Shelter and Le Moyne College. The world was a much richer and classier place because you were here. We love you and we'll miss you, Poppy.
