Obituary of Robert J. Bustin

Robert J. Bustin passed away on May 16 in the Francis House palliative care facility in Syracuse, NY after a brief illness. Born in Sayre, PA, Bob split his most recent time between his property in Ulster, Pa and apartment in Syracuse. Bob is survived by a number of cousins and many friends. He attended St. Agnes High School in Towanda, PA and played on the varsity basketball team. Bob carried his athleticism into his 9th decade and was known to perform 100 sit-ups and push-ups per day in addition to his weekly games of tennis, bike riding, and a stretching class which he claimed was not yoga. Bob was a proud decorated WWII Veteran and he was thrilled to be able to participate in a field trip to Washington several years ago with his fellow veterans. Bob served as supply sergeant in the military and was stationed in both the Philippines and Okinawa during his tenure. Bob also served his community as deputy sheriff in Bradford County PA. Bob spent much of his professional career running his own businesses, including a paper product distribution company, R.J. Bustin, Inc. He officially retired in 2013 at the young age of 87. Active in his church, Bob gave of his time quietly to many charitable organizations and volunteered significant time in a Hibernian effort to bring war torn Irish children to the States for summer vacation. Bob was a farm boy at heart and he will return to his rural roots and will be buried in the Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Towanda, PA at a later date. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 12 noon on Saturday, May 21 at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 406 Court Street, Syracuse 13208.
