Obituary of Francis W. Donovan

Francis W. Donovan, 94 years of age, passed away peacefully at Loretto on Tuesday. Francis was born in Syracuse and became head of his family while still a teenager upon the untimely death of his father. He served in the United States Army during World War II and participated in the Allied landing at Anzio. During the Italian campaign he drove tanks and ammunition trucks, at times passing under the shadow of Monte Casino. He was employed by Carrier Corporation for over 35 years. He was also an avid outdoorsman with a special love for the Adirondacks. Francis is survived by his Helen Donovan, his beloved wife of over 72 years. She was the center of his life. He is also survived by his son, John Donovan, his sister Patricia (Raymond) Moran, his sister-in-law, Virginia (Edmund) Fabisiak, and numerous nieces and nephews. Francis was pre-deceased by his son Robert Donovan, who was a casualty of the war in Viet Nam. Francis was steadfast in his obligations, served his country in time of war, attended church faithfully, and kept his promises. An excellent record by any measure. May the angels lead him into Paradise. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9am in St. John the Baptist Church with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery.
