    Dalton James Roof, 74, of North Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at the Fahey Rehab Facility. Mr Roof was born in Syracuse, the son of the late George J and Ruth E Roof. Dalton lived in the Syracuse area most of his life.
     A graduate of Central Technical High School, he was President of the Class of 1963.  He attended Colleges in New York, Kentucky and Tennessee. Dalton Retired from Onondaga County Government Services in 2010; serving 28 years in positions of Deputy Director of Division of Emergency Management and several positions in Onondaga County Department of Social Services.
     Dalton was a 20 year active Volunteer in the National Red Cross Disaster Organization, as Disaster Team Chairman, and Chapter/Division consultant. He was recognized in Syracuse for “Outstanding Volunteer Leadership” for one of top ten teams of over 2600 chapters in the National Red Cross Disaster Organization.
     In addition to his parents, Dalton was predeceased by his sister Marleah A. Reed of Auburn NY in 2017 and his brother, George C. Roof of South Carolina in 2004. 
Dalton is survived by his brother Ronald (Bette) Roof, of Raleigh, NC and by several nieces and nephews.
     Family and friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2018 at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street, Syracuse NY. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Funeral Home at 10 a.m. with burial immediately following the Service at White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt, NY.
     Family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave, Syracuse NY 13208.
