Obituary of Mary Joan Weinheimer

The angels came and delivered Joan to the other side of the rainbow to her heavenly home on November 6, 2018.  She passed peacefully with her loving family surrounding her.
Joan was born at home in Rome, NY on July 27, 1919.  Her parents were Thomas Albertus and Mary Isabel Williams Barry. Joan was the second oldest of five brothers. Her father passed away when she was 12 years old. She helped  her mother Isabel and grandmother Annie Mae Williams  to raise her younger brothers.
She was educated at the Academy of the Holy Names School. She was a graduate of the Utica School of Commerce.  After graduation she was employed at Revere Brass-Copper Company as an account analyst
On a blind date she met the love of her life Don.  They got engaged in 1941 but did not get married until March 2, 1946 after Don came home from WW II.  They were married in St. Peter’s Church in Rome, NY and raised their family in Syracuse. 
After she raised her family, she went back to work at family operated businesses: Wolf Hollow Racquet Club and then as office manager at Maintenance Products and Equipment Company.
Joan is survived by her sons Dr. Donald J. Jr. (Dr. Ann) Weinheimer of Great Falls, VA, Thomas Barry Weinheimer (Mary Anne Santaro) of Syracuse, Jake (Kim) Weinheimer of Marietta and daughters Mary Jo Weinheimer of Syracuse and Tricia (Jeff) Barbero of La Fayette; sister- in- law Doris Barry of Rome; grandsons Cris (Amy), Darren (Noa), Donnie (Shannon), Michael, Barry (Becky), Andrew, Jake (Doreen), Chad; great grandchildren Connor, Taylor Finn, Caleb and Vivienne; along with several nieces and nephews.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, Donald J. Weinheimer Sr.;  brothers: Tom (Anne)Barry, Jack(Doris)Barry, Quintin Barry, Mac(Rita) Barry, Father Louis W. Barry and grandson Bill Carrigan.
Joan our mother and friend will be remembered for her zest and love of life, her sense of humor, wisdom, determination, and loyalty but above all her love of faith and family.  She looked forward to and enjoyed family and friends’ social gatherings.  She also was blessed with a beautiful mind and an amazing memory earning her the nickname “Rain Woman.” She was also known as “Trixie Williams.”
A routine of Joan’s at the end of each day was to enjoy a libation- her leisure time with family and friends. This happened after 5 o’clock and was a time to reflect and share the events of the day.  One of her favorite activities was pressing the beads (rosary) for anyone. She was a member of the Living Altar & Rosary Society.
But what sustained Joan the most was her faith, prayer, and attitude that she lived by everyday.
We would like to express our gratitude for the care, attention, and compassion that she received from the staff at Crouse Hospital including Mary Flood, the    staff at the Emergency Room and the staff on the 6th floor, and the staff at the Iroquois Nursing Home.  A very special thank you goes out to  Therese Barrett Cacchione.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10am in Blessed Sacrament Church.
Calling hours are Sunday from 2-5pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Outreach Program or Hope for the Bereaved.
