Obituary of James D. LaFex Sr.

James D. LaFex, Sr., 87, of Syracuse, died on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  He had attended St. John the Evangelist High School before he left to join the Air Force during the Korean War.  He was a Sargent and served as a A & E mechanic at a pilot training air base in Selma, Alabama.  Mr. LaFex worked for 30 years at Western Electric in E. Syracuse until they closed in 1984.  He was a goal judge for the Syracuse Blazers Hockey Club, loved fishing, hunting and boating.  He was a SU Basketball and Yankees Fan.
He was pre-deceased by his parents: Alexander & Winifred LaFex, son Michael, and brother John LaFex.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Renee (Cline) LaFex; sons: James Jr. of Brewerton, Steven of Minoa; daughters: Jeanne (Timothy) Cavanaugh of Cicero, Kathleen LaFex of Clay; a sister Agnes Adams of Syracuse; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 10am in Blessed Sacrament Church with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery.  Calling hours are Monday from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home.  Contributions may be made to autismspeaks.org.
