Obituary of Sophie Yurko Fisher

Sophie (Yurko) Fisher, age 98, residing in East Syracuse, NY for 60 yrs., passed away on December 7, 2019, following a brief illness in Georgia. Born in Rochester, New York, July 27, 1921, Sophie was the daughter of John and Pauline (Byck) Yurko. Sophie's career in upstate New York included positions with The Easy Washer Company, Prestolite Electric, General Electric, and the facilities department of the East Syracuse-Minoa Central School District. Her most remarkable role was as a devoted and loving wife, mother and homemaker. Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 73 years Karol "Frank" Fisher, and her sister Katherine Panek. She is survived by her children Lance Fisher of Syracuse, Duane (Cristina) Fisher of Cumming, Georgia; three grandchildren, as well as four great-grandchildren. Sophie was a faithful parishioner of Transfiguration Church. A Memorial Mass celebrating Sophie's life will be held 10 AM Saturday January 11th, 2020 at Transfiguration Church, 740 Teall Ave., Syracuse, NY. She is interred with her beloved husband Karol at Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse, NY. Donations are accepted in her name to Transfiguration Church Building Fund.
