Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Michael Scallion, 83, passed away on February 28, 2013 in Syracuse. Born on February 12, 1930, Michael was the only son of Michael and Margaret (O'Shea) Scallion. He was raised in Marcellus and attended Marcellus High School where he was a terrific athlete, playing baseball and basketball. Mike continued playing basketball in college, graduating from Lemoyne College, then served in the US Army at Fort Meade in Maryland and played for the Fort's basketball team as well. He retired from Canteen where he worked as a sales representative for 42 years. Mike married Margaret Mary "Peg" Christian on June 16th, 1956.They were married for 54 years. They lived in Syracuse and on Otisco Lake then moved to Orlando for several years before Peg's death in 2010. They had one daughter, Susan Scallion Ramsay, born in 1957, who also passed away in 2010. Mike & Peg's world revolved around their beloved daughter, and they traveled extensively with her. Mike was an avid golfer, a member of Tuscarora Golf Club for more than 50 years. Tuscarora was like a second home to Mike, its members like family to him. Survived by son-in-law Bob Ramsay, brother and sisters-in law, several nieces and nephews, and many loyal friends, Mike's warm personality will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial mass will be said on May 18th at 10:30am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Marcellus, where Mike was a communicant. Burial will follow. Donations in Mike's name can be made to Francis House, Syracuse NY. (www.francishouseny.org)
