I met Tom shortly after joining the Syracuse Baseball Umpires chapter in 1977.. We shared mutual friends on and off the field. After moving to Binghamton in 1984 Tom and I kept in touch. We continued to get together and as my children came along, he graciously hosted us at SU football and basketball games. He was a true gentleman and I will miss him dearly.

Tom: You son of a gun. I was hoping to see you this winter!I guess I should share that you were the baseball coach who convinced me to play lacrosse. That time the pop fly ball hit me in the head and you said "Try another sport, Harvey. "
Later years I always enjoyed running into you. I enjoyed our talks about education for those most in need when I was running the GED course at Westcott or your help with a couple of relatives who needed some help with their personal demons. You were there for many folks. Thanks for being a rich part of my life:
Always,Paul

Tom Petroff was my varsity baseball coach at Christian Brothers Academy for the 1974 and 1975 seasons. In addition to teaching all of us the game of baseball, he also taught us teamwork and a drive for success. These learnings were something I have carried throughout my life.
Thank you, Coach Petroff. You will be missed.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Tom. I had the pleasure of meeting him as an 11 yr old Little Leaguer at Lincoln Park and forged a strong bond ever since. Had the opportunity to officiate many basketball games through the years. Spent much time after the games with this great man. Tom was one of a kind and very easy to spend time with. He will be missed by many.
RIP my old friend.
