Obituary of Thomas Petroff

Thomas Petroff, 73, of Syracuse passed away unexpectedly at Crouse Hospital on Christmas Eve. Born to Frances and Slafko Petroff, Tom grew up in Syracuse and North Syracuse. A graduate of North Syracuse High School, he worked many years for the Syracuse City Water Department and retired as the Superintendent of Water. For Tom, sports were a big part of his life; he was a great supporter of Syracuse University sports, attending most home games in basketball and football throughout the years. Tom began voluntarily coaching in high school and continued to coach various Little League and Babe Ruth teams. He also coached at several high schools, making many friends. Tom later served as a referee for high school basketball and an umpire for baseball. He was a member of the New York State Baseball Umpires Association. Tom was delighted in seeing family and did whatever he could for each of them. Tickets to SU games were frequent gifts. Tom was always eager to help a friend or an individual in need; he will be missed. Tom is survived by his brother Stanley Petroff of North Syracuse; his sister-in-laws Carol Petroff of Syracuse and Lucile Petroff of North Syracuse; brother-in-law George St. Phillips and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday 4-7 pm at ¬¬Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street, Syracuse. Services will be private.
